National Portrait Gallery...
Photographers and their work:
Nadav Kander:
(IMAN B.1955)
(John Swannell and David Bailey)
Nadav Kander:
(Tinie Tempa b.1988)
Here i like how the close-up of the photograpgh makes it a lot more dramatic effect. I like also the fact he's not looking straight at the camera and instead looking at an angle.
Daniel Stier:
(Gok Wan b.1974)
John Swannell:
- He was born in 1946
- Firstly, he worked as an assistant at vogue studios after he left school at 16. Then he assisted David Bailey for four years before he opened his own studio.
- He worked for magazines such as, vogue, Harperes and queen, the sunday times and tatler. He travelled and worked for about 10 years.
- During this time he began to develop his own style of photograpghy which included both fashion and beauty.
Some of his work:
(Sienna Miller b.1981)
(Victoria Beckham b.1975)
(Phill Lynitt b.1949-86) I really Like this photographers work, his work stood out to me in the gallery becasue i like how all his image captures beauty and fashion but in many different ways. He seems to get his models to do really posy pictures to capture their personality which seems to be the commercial aspect of his photograpghy. For example Phill Lynott with the guitar and Victoria Beckham posing on the chair. I also like how John Swannell uses a range of colour and black and white in his photograpghs as it creates different affects.
Tate Modern Gallery...
Photographers and their work:
Diane Arbus:
Diane Arbus:
- Born and worked in the USA
- She was known for her black and white square photographs
- Some people she would photograpgh in her work included dwarfs, giants, transvestites, nudists and circus performers.
- Despite hating the fashion world, Diane Arbus began a commercial photograpghy buisness
(42nd street movie theatre audience, N.Y.C 1958 printed, photograpgh, gelatin, silverprint on paper)
(Boy with a straw hat waiting to march in pro-war parade, N.Y.C 1967)
(The king and queen of a senior citizens dance, N.Y.C)
These three images in the gallery stood out the most out of all her work becasue i like the fact they are all black and white giving that old feel about them. Also i would say these photographs were very commercial as she has photographed people in costumes that you dont see everyday. In the first image, although it is not a portrait, becasue of the lighting it seemed theatrical and the image itself was powerful.
John Heartfield:
- He was claimed to have invented photomonatge, this was the techniques of manipulating and cutting photographs together.
- In his work he used news photographs and comissioned images.
- He was a member of the Berlin Dada group during the First world War.
Some of his work:
